Upland hunters in New York have joined the ranks of “The Habitat Organization” with the recent formation of the Long Island Chapter of Pheasants Forever. Local volunteers will now help deliver the mission of the nation’s leading upland conservation group through public access projects, hunter recruitment, pollinator habitat events and much more.
Replicating more than 560 Pheasants Forever chapters nationwide, the new local affiliates will utilize the organization’s signature fundraising model. Unique among national conservation groups, Pheasants Forever chapters are empowered with 100 percent control over the funds they raise at banquets and other events. This allows chapters to direct their funds to upland habitat projects, public lands purchases or the ability to host youth outdoor experiences in their respective regions.
“Pheasants Forever’s continued growth in the Empire State is exciting to witness,” stated Kurt Bond, regional representative for Pheasants Forever in New York. “Long Islanders now have an enthusiastic group of local volunteers dedicated to working on wildlife habitat efforts for the public to enjoy through hunting and other recreation.”

- The Long Island Chapter of Pheasants Forever has elected Michael Sinclair of Smithtown as president, Joseph Cappella of Miller Place as treasurer, John Costanza of Stony Brook as outreach chair, and Matthew Hendrickson of Northport as outreach apprentice chair.
