Farm Bill Biologist Partnership in Wisconsin Expands to Northwest Counties

Pheasants Forever has hired Cody Tromberg as the organization’s new Farm Bill wildlife biologist in northwest Wisconsin. Partnering with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Tromberg will assist area landowners with voluntary conservation planning and wildlife habitat management in his assigned area.

“We’re very excited to have Cody working in the area and assisting landowners with their conservation goals,” stated Jason Barrick, NRCS district conservationist for St. Croix County. “Cody is a great example of the partnership that has been created with Pheasants Forever, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the United States Department of Agriculture. This type of cooperation between conservation groups enables efficient and effective conservation to be realized here in western Wisconsin.”

Pheasants Forever Farm Bill wildlife biologists are experts in conservation programs and habitat planning. The purpose of a Farm Bill biologist is to accelerate the adoption of conservation practices by assisting landowners in designing, developing, and funding habitat improvements on private lands. Tromberg will be based in the Baldwin, Wisconsin USDA Service Center offering conservation planning in his work area of Burnett, Washburn, Polk, Barron, St. Croix, Pierce, and Pepin counties. There are more than 4,300 acres of Conservation Reserve Program contracts expiring in these seven counties in the next two years, a statistic that Tromberg will work to improve.

“It is very rewarding to assist landowners with wildlife and conservation planning in this area, a place where I was raised on a family farm,” explained Tromberg. “Wisconsin is well-known throughout the country for its outdoor heritage and hunting traditions. It is my hope that the conservation assistance I provide to area landowners will continue to nurture these pastimes for future generations to enjoy.”

A native of Grantsburg, Wisconsin, Tromberg earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Wildlife Ecology, Research, and Management from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Prior to joining Pheasants Forever, Tromberg worked for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as a wildlife technician in Columbia County.

Pheasants Forever’s six Farm Bill biologists in Wisconsin are a collaborative partnership among local chapters, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Tromberg officially started as a Pheasants Forever Farm Bill wildlife biologist on December 1, 2014, and can be contacted at (715) 928-3576 / ctromberg@pheasantsforever.org
