“The Habitat Organization” Awarded DuPont Pioneer Grant to Extend Youth Pollinator Habitat Program

Making an investment in the future of youth and conservation, DuPont Pioneer recently awarded Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever a $35,000 grant for expansion of the organization’s Youth Pollinator Habitat Program. Working with communities in the Midwest, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever chapters will offer pollinator habitat project grants to local schools and youth groups interested in learning about conservation through hands-on implementation.

“Now more than ever, it is critically important to help our younger generations develop an understanding of the positive intersection of agriculture and wildlife habitat,” said Nancy DeLong, sustainable agriculture systems director for DuPont Pioneer. “We’re proud to support the great work of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever in the field of conservation and look forward to observing the successes of this unique program.”

Approximately one-third of all food consumed by humans is delivered by pollinators - including fruits, vegetables, nuts, and coffee. Habitat necessary to maintain populations of honey bees and monarch butterflies is also the very same diverse grassland and prairie flower habitat necessary for pheasants. Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever chapters that hold youth pollinator habitat events not only benefit the birds and the bees, they provide education opportunities for local youth and community groups.

“DuPont Pioneer has been a great supporter of our organization and has made yet another significant, positive contribution for the protection of pheasants, quail, and other wildlife,” said Drew Larsen, national habitat education specialist for Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever. “This grant money will go a long ways to educate youth from many different communities about the importance of pollinator habitat for wildlife conservation.”
