It seems like every time a game-changing piece of technology is released there’s a vocal group of people who become nostalgic and long for the “old ways.” The automobile replaced the horse, smartphones have taken over our lives, and technology keeps marching on. There’s nothing you or I can do about it, and sure there’s something romantic about thinking about how the world used to get along so simplistically – but why wouldn’t you embrace something that can make your life (and your hunts) more safe, efficient, and downright more enjoyable?

The new Garmin Alpha 200i dog tracking and training unit checks all of those boxes.

Hear me out, the sound of a dog bell ringing through the grouse woods or the beauty in watching a well trained pup course through pheasant country will never get old, but the Alpha 200i will help take these experiences to an entirely new level.

Combining a 3.5” sunlight-readable display with the handheld’s six-button design is the best of all worlds. Simply put, this means you can use the Garmin TopoActive mapping and direct-to-device BirdsEye Satellite Imagery when seeing the map is necessary, while quickly using the tracking and training functions when you don’t want to take your eyes off the action in front of you. This design will help you embrace new mapping and tracking technology without feeling like you’re missing out on the hunt.

Knowing where you and your dogs are at all times will relieve anxiety and stress, the six-button handheld will make you a more efficient handler, but what about the aforementioned safety component? This is where Garmin has really taken dog tracking and training devices to a new level.

The Garmin Alpha 200i now includes inReach satellite technology. That’s right, you can now send and receive messages, navigate your route, track and share your hunt, and if necessary, trigger an SOS via their global communication coverage. How’s that for peace of mind?
