Some of the industry’s top voices will lead seminars on wing shooting, dog training and more

Since it’s official launch in 2018, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s Women on the Wing Initiative has inspired women across the country to become engaged, dynamic conservationists. Through outreach, chapter gatherings and social events, women of all ages are experiencing the uplands in unique and memorable ways — and the momentum created by this initiative has now found its way to the pheasant capital.

Planned and facilitated by passionate volunteers and professionals from both the conservation and hunting industries, a new weekend-long event is coming to the glacial lakes region of South Dakota.

The South Dakota Women on the Wing Weekend 2024 event, hosted by Tom and Tina Dokken and Lynn Lake Lodge, will take place August 23–25, 2024 in Day County, South Dakota. This is an exciting opportunity for women to participate in hands-on, mentored wing shooting clinics, habitat education seminars, dog handling demonstrations (including both pointing and flushing dogs), digital mapping and e-scouting activities, gun patterning, gear and clothing workshops and much more.

“We’re extremely excited for the opportunity to continue to educate more women and get them started on their own path to the uplands,” Tina Dokken said. “As a teacher, I believe providing a safe and fun learning environment is the key to getting these ladies excited about their hunting journey. Our all-star lineup of instructors look forward to inspiring, encouraging and helping these women gain confidence in their hunting future.”

Some of the hunting industry’s top voices will help lead the seminars, including outdoor writers, professional wing shooting instructors, veterinarians, dog trainers and long-time members and volunteers.

The event is designed for the beginner level shotgun and hunting enthusiast, and is limited to twenty participants.

Due to high interest and limited spots, those who would like to attend are asked to participate in an application process — providing answers to essay-style questions pertaining to hunting background, comfort with handling firearms and more. The application will also be an opportunity for individuals to share why they’re passionate about conservation and upland hunting, and what this event may do to further their personal or professional journeys.

Applications will be reviewed by a team of volunteer instructors and industry professionals.
