Will focus on habitat work and outreach events in Detroit area

Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever are proud to announce a new Women on the Wing chapter in Michigan. Based in Oakland County, the chapter will serve the northwest portion of the Detroit metro area. The group will focus on habitat conservation efforts in their region to positively influence pheasants and other wildlife.

Unique among national conservation organizations, chapters of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever retain 100 percent decision-making control over their locally-raised funds. This allows chapter volunteers to develop wildlife habitat projects and conduct conservation education events in their region, while belonging to a national organization with a voice regarding state and federal conservation policy.

“We are thrilled to be launching this chapter and providing even more opportunities for women’s involvement in Michigan,” said Melissa Weaver, Pheasant Forever and Quail Forever’s regional representative in Michigan. “We have had chapters host successful women's events over the past few years, and there has always been a lot of interest, so it’s exciting to see that interest culminate in the formation of a chapter that already has a full committee roster.”

The chapter will be hosting a meet and greet event on June 17. They hope to grow the group quickly, and are also focused more generally on women's R3, conservation education and habitat management.

“Ultimately the goal is to give these women a sense of belonging, and the opportunity to meet likeminded women,” Weaver said. “They’ll also serve as a resource to traditional chapters, hosting events all over the state and helping engage women in areas where other chapters exist as well.”
