South Dakota’s Habitat needs your help and your call NOW. Contact our members of the Joint Appropriations Committee (click here) today and tell them to vote YES!

UPDATE FEBRUARY 27

Pheasants Forever would like to thank each and every one of you who contacted the members of the Joint Appropriations Committee regarding SB176. The committee voted today to pass SB176, moving it onto the full House and Senate. Your voice surely made a difference in getting it where it is.

Despite the need, funding for the bill though was cut from $1,000,000 down to $500,000 which is disappointing to say the least but this will still provide great opportunities for producers, conservationists and hunters alike. Once on the floor there will be further calls to action to ensure this crucial bill's passage and to hopefully restore it to the Governor Noem's fully requested level of $1,000,000.

Also be sure to thank Governor Noem for her leadership and vision in investing in South Dakota's treasured pheasant hunting hertitage.

On Wedesday, February 27, South Dakota’s Joint Appropriations Committee will be voting on Senate Bill 176 which appropriates $1 million from the general fund to Governor Kristi Noem’s Second Century Initiative.

The success of this initiative is vital to ensure South Dakota's most time-honored outdoor tradition carries on for the next 100 years. Beyond tradition, pheasant hunting and other outdoor pursuits in South Dakota are a major economic driver, bringing in $1.33 billion annually to small rural communities across our state, ensuring that small businesses can carry on and survive throughout the year.

South Dakota has proven to be a leader when it comes to agriculture and conservation working hand in hand.  Partnerships like that between Pheasants Forever and South Dakota Corn Growers Association provide profitable alternatives for saline soils while creating excellent wildlife habitat. That's the type of win-win that can come from this investment. This money will help continue existing programs that are effective in creating habitat along with allowing the development of new and innovative working lands programs that work for our state’s producers and outdoorsman alike.

No one knows the best way to deliver conservation better than at the local level. SB176 would allow us as South Dakotans to lay the groundwork on how agriculture and conservation are going to work together to ensure South Dakota's second century of pheasant hunting is better than our first!

THE VOTE IS WEDNESDAY DEBRUARY 27 so please contact the members of the Joint Appropriations NOW to voice your support for SB176 and the future of habitat and pheasant hunting in South Dakota!
