Pheasants Forever, Inc. and Quail Forever has named Jim Inglis to the newly-created position of Farm Bill Biologist Coordinator.
Saint Paul, Minn. - July 23 -
Pheasants Forever, Inc. and Quail Forever has named Jim Inglis to the newly-created position of Farm Bill Biologist Coordinator. Inglis has spent the past six years as the PF/QF Regional Wildlife Biologist in Ohio.
The Farm Bill biologist program is designed to educate farmers and landowners about the benefits of conservation programs, as well as assist those farmers and landowners after programs have been implemented. As the new Farm Bill Biologist Coordinator, Inglis will manage, oversee and expand all aspects of the program. PF/QF first began employing Farm Bill biologists in 2005, and now has 22 Farm Bill Biologists working in five states – Ohio, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota and Missouri. Last year, Farm Bill biologists contacted and consulted over 3,000 landowners, resulting in the improvement of over 100,000 acres of land for wildlife.
Current funding for conservation programs comes from the 2002 Farm Bill, which contains about $17 billion for conservation efforts. Reauthorized every five years, Inglis stated a 2007 Farm Bill with a strong Conservation Title is imperative. "The biologist program has been well-received and has helped educate more landowners about conservation programs that are available for their land, sometimes at little or no cost " Inglis said, "But a lot of what we're able to do with this program hinges on the 2007 Farm Bill."
Inglis said continued expansion of the Farm Bill biologist program is critical. "The Farm Bill biologists have been very successful in every state we have created them. With this success, we hope to use this model and continue expanding into other states."
According to Inglis, the continued success of the Farm Bill biologist program also rests with his ability to develop new partnerships, "The more we can combine resources - work with local chapters, state and federal agencies – the stronger we can be."
"This position fills a huge void and will allow us to be more proactive in developing and working with our Farm Bill biologists," said Howard Vincent, PF/QF President and CEO, "With his knowledge and work ethic, Jim is the right man for the job. We are excited to have a person with his talents lead this vital program."
Inglis will continue working from his home in Marysville, Ohio. A native of Clifton Springs, New York, Inglis completed his undergraduate degree at Syracuse University, and obtained his Master's Degree in Wildlife Biology from Mississippi State University.
