In the Field: August 2008

No Boundaries

Last year Aberdeen, South Dakota, was fortunate enough to have a visitor from over seas.

In the Field: August 2008 "Dino" came to Aberdeen last year for the 2007 fall pheasant opener. His story is like so many others that take to the field, but with a twist. Dino came to Aberdeen from Greece. Dino, a "tired" urologist, learned about Aberdeen and its spectacular pheasant hunting through the Aberdeen Convention & Visitors Bureau, website www.HuntFishSD.com.

Dino made all of his travel and hotel arrangements over the internet by way of the website. Arriving in town Dino stopped by the Convention & Visitors Bureau because he wanted to meet us. We at the Aberdeen Convention & Visitors Bureau had sent Dino a hunting packet of information explaining all Aberdeen has to offer pheasant hunters.

Dino arrived at our door step and basically said "Hi I am Dino from Greece. I am here with my dog Azea to go pheasant hunting." I told him he was on the right track, but we need to organize his efforts a little more. I told Dino it was his lucky day because I had taken the next three days off work. I told Dino he was more than welcome to come along with me for the next couple of days.

Dino and I took lessons from Azea and my dog Strega. The two dogs from different backgrounds worked together like they have been hunting for years. Pheasant hunting has a common language even the dogs figure out. After two worn out dogs and three solid days of pheasant hunting, everyone had enjoyed their time spent together in the field.

Dino and Azea are returning again this fall for another round of pheasant hunting to further strengthen the ties between not only a man and his dog, but the memories created through the efforts of a few.

It truly shows that efforts of a few individuals can have "No Boundaries."
