William R. Coad, LeMars, Iowa, shared this 1926 photo of the results of a hunt on Lake Sinai, South Dakota (near Brookings). I'll let Coad take the story from there, "I have been a reader of Pheasants Forever for some time and have always enjoyed the old photos at the back of your magazine. As a result, I recently became a member myself. Many of the photos are quite impressive, but I think I have one that takes the cake.
My grandfather, William A. Coad, also of LeMars, established a duck and pheasant hunting camp at the South edge of Lake Sinai, South Dakota in about 1915. For years, until his death in 1931, he entertained his passion for upland game and waterfowl hunting as well as entertaining a number of his close friends and guests at the camp. In the early years they camped in tents, but eventually built a bunkhouse and a cookhouse at the edge of the lake.
This photo shows the results of one of their stays at Sinai in 1926 with my grandfather on the right with his Model 11 Remington auto-loader; one of his close friends, Leo Hentges of LeMars; and one of my grandfather's two Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Trusty. There are 36 pheasants and 80 ducks. I've never seen another photo that compares with the results of another pheasant hunt in 1926 (not shown) that displays about 165 birds."
