A Great Start on Forever: April 2008

People Making a Difference in Conservation

Coastal Carolina Chapter of Quail Forever

On the Wing: A Great Start on Forever The Coastal Carolina Chapter of Quail Forever is just over a year old, but on Saturday, March 22nd, the chapter held its first public event with a Youth Day held at Roans Branch Hunting Preserve in Bolivia, North Carolina.

Over 30 youth age 16 and under participated in a variety of activities including BB gun shooting, wildlife biology education, skeet shooting, gun safety, hunter safety education and a fully-guided quail hunt complete with trained hunting dogs.

The chapter sponsored "Whistlers" memberships for all participants and was even able to recruit several accompanying parents and adults into joining QF. Chapter president David Knox owns Roans Branch and chapter secretary/treasurer Michael Tatum provided his three full European-stock French Brittany's - Abby, Anikan and Hamilton. Needless to say, the kids had a blast watching the dogs work!

On the Wing: A Great Start on Forever "What better way to involve the youth of our community and keep with the spirit of Quail Forever's "No Child Left Indoors" initiative than with a Youth Day!" Tatum said.

If you have story ideas, dog photos, pre-1980 hunting photos and requests for future On The Wing consideration, please send correspondence to ahauck@pheasantsforever.org.
