A Great Start on Forever: July 2007
People Making a Difference in Conservation: Kim N. Price, who sits on Quail Forever's National Board of Directors, has become the first Patron Member ($10,000 level) of Quail Forever. Price, who resides in Alexander City, Alabama, is the publisher and editor of Covey Rise, a monthly magazine devoted to quail. He is also the chairman of the Alabama Quail Council.
What does becoming a QF Patron Member mean to you?
Bobwhite restoration is not going to be accomplished overnight. It will take years of rebuilding native habitat that has been lost over the years. That's why a patron membership is so important. It helps establish a legacy for quail that will endure many years from now. It will help continue the work of bobwhite restoration for more than just a year or two. I became a patron member because I wanted my name associated with this long-term effort and goal of bobwhite restoration and habitat work. The more patron members we have, the longer our mission will continue.
What type of leadership does a patron membership display?
The best way is to encourage other quail hunters and conservationists to get involved in the movement to restore bobwhite populations is by becoming a member of QF, especially a patron member. Having a patron membership means it is a clear statement that you are supporting an entire movement, not just a membership organization doing good things. It means the organization will have the resources necessary for years to come to help restore these bobwhite populations through effective habitat work and conservation measures at the local level.
How do you see QF becoming more successful across the country?
I think QF is already a success. What is needed are more members on the team who are habitat conscious. They can be quail hunters, quail enthusiasts, field trainers or dog owners. They can belong to other organizations and belong to QF as well. I became associated with QF because of the successful plan and understanding the organization has to get habitat on the ground at the local level because that is how we will overcome the bobwhite population issues. Bobwhites have lost much of their successional habitat and QF understands this. They learned this from pheasants, and look at PF now - a thriving organization with a successful model that gets millions of dollars in habitat work on the ground annually. QF's formula is no different. The bobwhite is just as special for QF as the pheasant is for PF members, yet the mission is the same - to help restore bobwhite populations by establishing new habitat in as many states as possible. That is the focus and the mission of the habitat organization.
