Kansas – Central Looking Best

kansas forecast

Forecast: Following the state's best year for pheasants in two decades, the winter carryover of the birds was good. However, the western third of the state was mired in a severe drought this spring that had the state's wheat crop in tough shape, and pheasants depend on that wheat for nesting cover. Likewise, the drought also led to a severe lack of insect production, which pheasant chicks need to survive. With a good amount of nesting cover and a less severe drought, hunters can be optimistic about central Kansas.

New in Kansas this year, Governor Sam Brownback announced the state’s first Ringneck Classic pheasant hunt will be Nov. 18-20 and based out of Oakley. This special hunt is designed to showcase how pheasant hunting boosts the state's economy.

Season Dates: November 12 through January 31, 2012
Daily Bag Limit: 4
Possession Limit: 16
Field Notes: Pheasants Forever's National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic will be held just after the season, February 17, 18 & 19, 2012, at the Kansas City Convention Center in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. .
