Five Question Friday: Bill Jackson

Five Question Friday with Bill Jackson of the Portland Chapter of PF in Oregon.
PF: What were the worst conditions you've ever hunted in...?
BJ: This past spring, my son Will and I went on a Spring Bear Hunt in the Tillamook region in northwest Oregon. Along with a constant rain (which started after we were about 4 miles from the truck), the terrain was 30-degree mountain sides with the heaviest undergrowth I've ever been in. The GPS unit continued to provide false readings, continuing to take us farther and farther away from where we wanted to be. And to cap it off, we were stalked by a cougar. Needless to say, no bear (although we did spot two juveniles); no cougar (couldn't get a clean shot); and a whole lot of huffing and puffing!
PF: You've hunted with _____ for years?
BJ: I have been extremely fortunate to hunt with exceptional hunters - safe, courteous and with a desire to hunt for the sake of the hunt and not to fill a game bag. But my real joy is hunting with my French Brittany's, Ukkel and Vignette.
PF: Your favorite wildlife artist is _____?
BJ: It's really a toss-up between Robert Bateman and David Maass. Bateman has real distinct knack for capturing detail and Maass captures the action like few others.
PF: The best law instituted since you started hunting was what?
BJ: The requirement for Hunter Education in order to receive a hunting license is far and away the best law in recent years. As a Hunter Education Instructor, I see the benefit of the education, especially with youngsters. It is especially heartening to see the recognition on the faces of the participants that hunting is much more than shooting and killing; it is about understanding the outdoors and the game and to be prepared when in the heart of nature.
PF: When it comes to hunting, your motto is ...?
BJ: It is a quote from Chief Sitting Bull; "When the Buffalo are gone, we will hunt mice. For we are hunters and we want our freedom." It captures what I believe is the personality, the values and the challenges of today's hunter.
