Five Question Friday: Marc Miller

Five Question Friday with Marc Miller of the Scott County Chapter of PF in Iowa.
PF: Have you ever tried any extreme sports?
MM: I spent twenty-one and a half years serving this great country in the military. Earning my silver Airborne wings doing night jumps with combat gear from a jet could be considered an extreme sport, along with military mountaineering and associated rope sliding. While I was stationed in Germany, we competed with the German soldiers for the German Soldier's Proficiency Badge (Abzeichen fur Leistungen im Truppendienst). This is a multiple day proficiency test in three weapons (handgun, rifle and machinegun), swimming, track and field events such as their version of a shot put, sprints, high jump and the like, culminating with about a 12-mile race with 40 lb. rucksacks. But no, I've never done formal "extreme" sports, unless you count deer hunting last fall during Iowa's first shotgun season. About 8 degrees, wind chill well below zero. It was extreme.
PF: If you could be any animal, you'd be a...?
MM: It would have to be a predator of some sort as I like meat and wouldn't particularly like being eaten. My wife would say I act like a grizzly bear a good part of time - gruff and slow to get some things done around the house. I see it as: Mow the yard or go fishing? Fix this or that or go hunting? No brainer - life is for living.
PF: The most useless fact you know is...?
MM: Some say I'm a walking file cabinet of useless facts and sayings, such as the maximum effective range of an excuse is zero meters, but there is only one place to fish and that's in the water. There's only two times to fish and that's when it's raining and when it ain't. There is only one place to hook a fish and that's in the corner of the mouth.
PF: Your favorite outdoors outfitter to shop at is...?
MM: Sportsman's Warehouse in Ankeny, Iowa. Good variety and the lowest prices. A close second is Scheel's in Iowa City, Iowa.
PF: If you won the Powerball, the first thing you'd do is...?
MM: Figure out what the tax bite would be and then if it's more advantageous to take the lump sum or payments over time. Along with that is where I'd hide out so all my friends and relatives couldn't find me.
