Pheasants Forever Launches First Women on the Wing Chapter in Iowa

Pheasants Forever is excited to introduce the first Women on the Wing chapter in Iowa. The Iowa Heartland Women on the Wing Chapter is based in Polk County and welcomes women from any surrounding community to join. The new group of volunteers will focus on conservation outreach and habitat projects for wildlife, recognizing the need to provide opportunities and resources for women who cherish the outdoor lifestyle.

Unique among national conservation organizations, chapters of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever retain 100 percent decision-making control over fundraising dollars, allowing volunteers to support impactful wildlife habitat projects, public access initiatives, and conservation education programs throughout the upland bird range. Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever team member, JP Knutson, will work closely with the new chapter to support the organization’s vision to sustain abundant populations of wild pheasants, quail, and other wildlife.

“This region has already experienced a lot of participation from women in pheasant hunting and habitat work,” said Knutson, Pheasant Forever and Quail Forever’s Iowa regional representative. “It will be exciting to watch them grow and continue to inspire others to try something new.”

Chapter volunteers are prepared to introduce as many women as possible to hunting and habitat conservation. Several women in the chapter have already attended mentor-led hunts with the Northern Polk Pheasants Forever Chapter and plan to collaborate with other surrounding chapters to recruit more women in the Greater Des Moines Region. Creating a supportive community that promotes comfort and confidence in the outdoors is a key focus for the group.
