New Pheasants Forever Chapter Takes Flight in Southwest Idaho

Efforts focused on sustaining Idaho’s legendary upland bird populations have received a major boost with the formation of the Elmore County Chapter of Pheasants Forever in southwest Idaho. Local conservationists initiated the new committee with common goals to restore pheasant habitat, provide more public hunting access, and engage community youth about the importance of wildlife habitat conservation.

“Elmore County provides opportunities for upland enthusiasts to hunt pheasants, valley quail, chukar and other upland species, it’s a perfect fit for establishing a local chapter of Pheasants Forever,” stated Ryan Storm, regional representative for Pheasants Forever in Idaho. “With the inception of the Elmore County Chapter of Pheasants Forever, we hope to work with partner agencies to enhance existing wildlife tracts, provide habitat assistance to area landowners, and create further outdoor education opportunities for community youth.”

Pheasants Forever empowers local chapters with the responsibility to determine how 100 percent of their locally-raised conservation funds will be spent. This local control allows members to see the fruits of their chapter efforts in their own communities, while belonging to a national organization with a voice on federal conservation policy. Since creation in 1982, Pheasants Forever and its local chapters have spent $634 million on 502,000 habitat projects benefiting 14.1 million acres nationwide. The newly established Elmore County Chapter of Pheasants Forever will promote this same model throughout southwest Idaho in hopes of having a positive impact on wildlife habitat conservation efforts.

“Our committee is excited about the opportunities ahead to establish more wildlife habitat in our region for pheasants, quail, and other wildlife,” said Tim Parrish, elected president for the Elmore County Chapter of Pheasants Forever. “With several schools in the area, Mountain Home Air Force Base, and plenty of private landowners looking for assistance with habitat projects, chapter volunteers of Elmore County Pheasants Forever are ready to make an impact for wildlife habitat conservation efforts.”
